Privacy Policy
The short version: we collect what we need to run ATL Thrift Guide. We don't sell your information, show ads, or use outside ad or analytics trackers. If that ever changes, we'll update this policy and ask you to agree again. You can delete your account from inside the app at any time.
This policy explains how ATL Thrift Guide ("the app," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects your information. It covers the ATL Thrift Guide iPhone app and our website, atlthriftguide.com. ATL Thrift Guide is operated by Cheyenne Joyce (2nd Studio) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Your use of the app is also governed by our Terms of Service. If you have questions, email info@atlthriftguide.com.
Information you give us
- Account information: your email address, username, and password. Our database provider stores passwords scrambled (hashed), so no one, including us, can read them. We also keep a record of when you agreed to our Terms and this policy.
- Profile information (optional): a profile photo, bio, neighborhood, and favorite category.
- Style quiz results: your result, your style DNA, and the answers behind them. If you're signed in, your result is saved to your profile, and retaking the quiz replaces it. If you're not signed in, it stays on your phone. If you create an account or sign in soon after taking the quiz on that phone, it's added to your profile.
- "Does this feel right?" answers: when you answer this after the style quiz, we save your answer along with your result and quiz answers, so we can make the quiz better. If you're signed in, the answer is linked to your account and is also saved with your result on your profile. If you're not signed in, it isn't linked to an account. If you then save that quiz result to an account, your answer is saved on your profile with it.
- Things you post: community finds (item details, store, price, category, caption, and photo), comments, and likes.
- Things you save and track: saved stores, saved routes, stores you've marked as visited, store votes ("Still worth the trip" and "Not lately"), stores you follow, members you follow, and any finds you saved before we retired that feature.
- Shop notes: private notes about your store visits. Other members can't see them, and they don't appear in our admin tools.
- Saved routes: the stops, title, and time estimates, the neighborhood the route starts from, whether it started from your location, and the end point you picked. If your end point is an address you searched for, its name, address, and map position are saved too. We never save your exact starting point.
- Event submissions: event details, an optional flyer image, how you're connected to the event, and a contact email we use only for questions about your submission.
- Store suggestions: the store's name, address, neighborhood, type, what it sells, an optional link, and why it belongs in the guide. We save your account email with it so we can follow up.
- Messages to us: your conversations in Message the team and Send feedback, and anything you send to our email.
- Reports and blocks: reports you send about stores, finds, comments, or events, and the accounts you choose to block.
Photos
When you add a photo to a find, an event, or your profile, the app makes a new, smaller copy of it on your phone before upload. This also removes hidden data stored inside photos, such as the GPS location where the photo was taken.
Find photos and event flyers are stored at web addresses that anyone with the link can open. In the app, finds and events are shown to signed-in members. Your profile photo is saved with your profile, which other signed-in members can see.
Location
Location is optional. The app asks one time, right after "Before you start," using your iPhone's own permission prompt, and won't ask again on its own. If you chose Allow Once, your iPhone may ask again when you tap Near me or Use my current location. On the website, your browser asks instead. You can change your answer anytime in your iPhone's Settings.
If you allow it, here's how your location is used:
- On your phone: to sort "Open now near you" by distance, to show where you are on the map, and to start the route builder from where you are. When you build a route from your location, the app asks your iPhone for your exact current location, so the route starts where you're standing. Your exact location is used on your phone for these. We don't store it on our servers.
- Maps: our maps are drawn by Google Maps. When a map shows where you are, Google receives the map area around you.
- Weather: to show the temperature on the home screen, we send your location rounded to about 1 km (a little over half a mile) to our weather provider, Open-Meteo. If location is off, you see Atlanta's weather.
- Saved routes: if you save a route, we save the neighborhood it starts from and the end point you picked, so you can open it again. If the route started from your location, we save only the nearest neighborhood and a note that it started from your location, never your exact spot. When you reopen it, it starts from wherever you are then. Deleting the route or your account removes it.
- Directions: "Open in Google Maps" sends your stops and end point to Google Maps. If your route starts from your location, including a saved route that did, the link leaves the starting point out and Google Maps finds you on its own, under Google's privacy policy. If you picked a starting neighborhood, the link includes that neighborhood's name.
- Sharing a route: the message includes your stops, the end point you picked, and a Google Maps link. If you picked a starting neighborhood, the link includes its name. It never includes your exact location.
If you don't allow location, you pick a starting neighborhood yourself, and everything else still works.
Other information collected automatically
- Basic technical information: when the app opens, it loads fonts from Google, a code library from jsDelivr, Cloudflare's bot-check code, and weather from Open-Meteo. As with any website, these services and our hosting and database providers receive your IP address, device and browser type, and the time. Our sign-in provider also keeps a record of your sign-ins (time, IP address, and device type) with your account to keep it secure.
- Bot check: when you sign up, sign in, reset your password, or ask for a new code, Cloudflare's Turnstile check looks at basic browser and device signals to tell people from bots.
- On your phone: the app keeps a few things in its own storage on your phone: your sign-in session, display settings (like list or map view), whether and when you agreed to our Terms and this policy, whether you've seen the welcome tour, whether it has asked for your location, and a style quiz result you haven't saved to an account (and a temporary code that ties it to your current visit). On the website, these are kept in your browser.
We don't use advertising trackers or outside analytics companies, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. Today, the app doesn't send us usage statistics or error reports about how you use it. If that changes, we'll update this policy and ask you to agree again.
Because we don't track you across other sites, our app and website don't change how they work when your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal.
Payments
Right now, all of the app's features are free for members, and there are no payments of any kind in the app. We don't see or store card details. If we ever offer paid features, they'll be sold only through Apple's in-app purchase, so Apple would process the payments, and we'll update this policy and ask you to agree again before that starts.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account, including emailing you sign-up codes and password reset links, and checking for bots.
- To run the app's features: store guides, routes, events, the style quiz, the community, and saving.
- To review event submissions, store suggestions, and reports, and to keep the community safe.
- To answer your messages and feedback, and to make the style quiz better.
- To maintain and secure the app, and to fix problems.
What other people can see
- Other signed-in members can see your username and profile: your photo, bio, neighborhood, favorite category, when you joined, and saved style quiz results (including the answers behind them and any "Does this feel right?" answer). They can also see the finds and comments you post, and which finds you like.
- Events: every signed-in member can see published events. The app doesn't show who sent an event in, but someone with technical know-how could see which account sent in a published event. Your contact email and how you're connected to the event are visible only to our team.
- Votes and follows: other people see only the total votes on each store, never who voted. Your own votes, the stores you follow, and the members you follow are visible only to you and our team.
- Photos: find photos and event flyers can be opened by anyone who has the link.
- Private from other members: your email address, saved stores and routes, visited stores, votes and follows, shop notes, messages with us, reports, and blocks.
- Our team can see what we need to run the app and keep it safe, such as your email address, the messages and reports you send, and the contact email on your event submissions and store suggestions.
Who we share information with
We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. If that ever changes, we'll update this policy and ask you to agree again. We share information only with service providers that help us run the app, and only as needed for them to do so:
- Supabase — account sign-in, database, and file storage
- Vercel — website and app hosting, and the small helper that loads store photos
- Cloudflare — domain services, the bot check on sign-in forms, and sending account emails (such as sign-up codes)
- Google — maps, address search, directions, store photos, fonts, and our business email. Google receives what you type into an address search and the map area you're viewing. Your use of Google Maps features in the app is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Open-Meteo — local weather (receives a location rounded to about 1 km, or Atlanta's if location is off, plus basic technical information like your IP address)
- jsDelivr — delivers a piece of code the app loads (receives basic technical information, like any website you visit)
- Apple — distributes the iPhone app through the App Store. Apple may give us overall App Store statistics, and crash reports from people who chose to share them with app developers.
We choose providers that agree to protect your information and to use it only to provide their services to us. For the free services that only deliver code, fonts, or weather (jsDelivr, Google Fonts, and Open-Meteo), we don't have a separate agreement. They receive only basic technical information and, for weather, a rounded location.
When you open a store's website, Instagram, an event link, or directions in Google Maps, you leave our app, and that site's own privacy policy applies.
Our providers may store and process information in the United States and other countries. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of our users or the public, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or sale, in which case this policy would continue to apply to your information.
How long we keep information
We keep your information until you delete your account. If you start signing up but never confirm your email, we may keep that unfinished sign-up until you ask us to delete it.
When you delete your account, we delete your account, profile (including your photo and saved quiz results), finds and their photos, comments, likes, saves, saved routes, visited stores, votes, follows, shop notes, messages with our team, reports you sent, and blocks. Comments other people left on your finds are deleted with the finds.
A few things stay, but they're no longer linked to you:
- Events you sent in may stay, whether or not they were published: published ones as community information in the guide, and others in our review records. We remove your contact email and your flyer.
- Store suggestions you sent may stay so we can finish reviewing them. We remove your email from them.
- "Does this feel right?" answers stay, without your account.
- Reports other members sent about your posts or account may stay so we can finish handling them. They may still mention your username.
Our providers keep basic technical logs for a limited time. Our sign-in provider's security log, which records account activity like sign-ins (with your email and IP address), may keep entries after your account is deleted. Copies of deleted information may remain in routine system backups for a limited time before they're overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- Update your profile anytime: Profile → Settings → Edit profile.
- Location: turn it on or off anytime in your iPhone's Settings → ATL Thrift Guide → Location. You can also turn off Precise Location there. The app still works without it.
- Delete what you've added: you can delete your finds, your comments, comments other people leave on your finds, events you sent in, shop notes, and saved routes. You can also unsave stores, unlike finds, unfollow stores, and undo votes and visited marks. Retaking the style quiz replaces your saved result.
- Block and report: tap Report / Block on a member's find or comment to report it or block them, and unblock them in Profile → Settings → Blocked accounts. They aren't told. When you block someone, our team also gets a report about that find or comment so we can check it. You can report stores, finds, comments, and events from within the app. To report a person, report one of their finds or comments.
- Delete your account anytime in the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account.
- Requests: to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete something you can't delete in the app (like a saved quiz result, a message thread, finds you saved before we retired that feature, or members you follow), email info@atlthriftguide.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and we'll honor them.
Age requirement
You must be at least 16 years old to use ATL Thrift Guide or create an account. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe someone under 16 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Security
Your information is encrypted while it travels between your device and our servers. We also use access rules that limit each person to their own private data, and verified sign-ups with a bot check. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you if required by law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. If we make significant changes, we'll tell you in the app before they take effect, and the app will ask you to agree to the updated policy before you continue. We may also email you. The effective date at the top shows when it was last updated.
